The Bhadohi Cycling Club was founded on August 15, 2021 by Ataul Mustafa Ansari to inculcate a culture of fitness and promote a carbon-neutral district. With this initiative, Mr Ansari aimed to create a community of like-minded people to ride together on weekends and encourage newcomers to take up the sport and explore the District. From just a handful of people to over 3000 members at present, the Bhadohi Cycling Club is among Purvanchal’s biggest clubs today. Since its inception, the Bhadohi Cycling Club has conducted over 200 rides. Its members, who hail from all walks of life, strongly believe in the concept of cycling to work, schools, colleges, and other places.
Bhadohi Cycling Club was founded on 15th August 2021 by Ataul Mustafa Ansari with the primary idea to motivate and get the mass into the sport of cycling to enjoy its endless benefits. It is also an initiative to protect the environment, create a community of like-minded people to ride together on weekends and introduce newbies on the road to ride and explore the district.
BCC was started when Ataul Mustafa Ansari established BCC following his idea to devise a beginners’ oriented group for newbies which was immensely supported by Dr. Shankar Suvan Yadav, CA Vijay Kumar Tiwari, Advocate Premdhar Tripathi, Shashi Kant Pandey & Praveen Singh Tandon joining the initial rides and introducing the new group in town. So, a club that started with just few members, now boasts 3000+ members is a sign of how we have successfully conducted cycling throughout the years.
BCC has always cared for the environment, and we are a proud group of cyclists promoting zero carbon footprint. We strongly believe in the concept of cycling to work, school, colleges and other such places and produce zero carbon footprint. It also contributes towards a positive impact on health as we exercise and burn calories while sweating to work! BCC has also performed tree plantation rides in the past, wherein we planted tree saplings to promote tree plantation around the city, and our riders have taken part in many cyclothons to increase awareness about the environment and health.
Since its inception, BCC has continuously been organising cycling and have come across people who have bodily ailments. Thus, their willingness to join the club after being suggested by their respective doctors for overall wellbeing. Cycling plays one of the major roles in improving cardiovascular health along with the joints and ligaments that lead to rehabilitation from injuries. We have had riders with severe knee pain as well as those with arthritis. Their desire to cycle regularly has helped them to cope up with their knee injuries. Cycling is a technical sport, but when done correctly, it has a lot of health benefits. On the other hand, when the same is performed with the wrong posture or technique, it can lead to lifetime injuries. We at BCC ensure right from the first ride that the riding technique of a rider is always correct so that there are no chances of injuries. We give special emphasis on the techniques of a rider that includes correct seat height, reach from saddle to the handlebar, the height of the handlebar and also the size of the frame. Once everything is correct, and to a satisfactory level, we guide the rider towards better pedalling and breathing techniques.
Today, BCC has 3000+ members on a voluntary basis. Each member comes with a belief and to have fun. BCC is a big community with members of all age groups ( 6 to 79 to be precise till date) from different professional backgrounds, like doctors, officers, advocates, teachers, students, business or working-class people, youth, social workers, public representatives and even retired servicemen. Differentiating between riders is against our morality. Any person with his/her cycle and helmet willing to join us is our rider and we believe in treating each rider equally. It gives us immense pleasure to inform you that BCC is among the groups with the most female cyclists in Purvanchal, and we arrange female-specific rides with special arrangements to promote cycling among women.
BCC is the hub for a host of students coming from schools and colleges of different grades, and we are happy to cycling with them. The response has been positive so far, and we appreciate the trust of those parents who send their kids to ride with us early mornings. We also take pride in organising cycling for school kids where they receive the opportunity to gather scores of wisdom from senior riders of the club. The primary advantage is their chance to learn a list of professional skills, in both cycling and other areas. Like for example, we have IIT aspiring kids who get to interact with IIT pass outs on the same ride as well as business-minded kids who gather entrepreneurship skills from big-time businessmen joining us on rides. Thus, the community is growing remarkably with each passing year, that too at a stronger and faster pace.
BCC has performed many social-cause rides to support the organisations and their people. It includes many cyclothons, social awareness campaigns and blanket distribution rides during winters to people living on roadsides. Other successful events include traffic awareness campaigns with Bhadohi Police and Bhadohi Authority to reduce the number of accidents in the city and create awareness about the benefits of cycling.
BCC has conducted over 200 rides since 2021, including holiday, midweek and regular weekend rides. In 2021, we started with a challenge series where riders were presented with official certificates on completion of the challenge. It had been a great success as we were able to carry out many such challenges and received positive responses. It was an initiative to train beginners and seasoned riders willing to start cycling and develop better stamina respectively through the sport. We keep planning such a series filled with fantastic challenges, thrills and of course, difficulties! In the past years with our team of amazing admins, we have happily conducted the rides, also plan to expand on the same lines. We also collaborated with many groups and organisations who are in the similar sport, and we are more than happy to share the field as we believe in motivating to get more people outdoors to experience a positive, fit and healthy lifestyle.
